Piedmont Biofuels manufactures biodiesel from used cooking oil at its facility in Pittsboro, North Carolina. It distributes its fuel locally and to North Carolina fleets.
"The past ten years has been a roller coaster ride for this industry," said Lyle Estill, Piedmont's president. "It's good to see policy decisions that will help stabilize our transition to a green economy."
Biodiesel is the first, and only EPA designated "Advanced Biofuel" that is commercially available in the United States. As a pioneer in "community scale" biodiesel production, Piedmont has produced millions of gallons, shipped dozens of small scale biodiesel production plants, and contributed technological developments to the nascent biodiesel industry.
"We think of biodiesel as 'hometown security," said Estill, noting that Chatham County has benefitted nicely over the years from both the direct and indirect jobs associated with Piedmont's investments.
"Having a policy layer we can count on will have a positive impact on our business, and we are grateful to those with the courage to stand up to entrenched petroleum interests," Estill said.
