Two Major Milestones Reached In The Wind Industry Image
The global wind power industry reached two major milestones over the weekend.

Power Engineering reported late Friday that the 2500th GE 1.5 MW wind turbine was brought on-line on October 1, 2004. The GE 1.5 MW machine has become the work horse of the wind industry, and is by far the most widely sold wind turbine in the megawatt-class. The 2500th turbine was installed as part of ENEL's Littigheddu project in Sardinia, Italy.

And just one day after reports on the success of the 1.5 MW turbine model, comes this report on new 5MW turbines. Slashdot reported on Saturday that "'Construction work on the REpower 5M was successfully completed last night with the installation of the rotor. Thus the main work on the prototype of the 5-megawatt, world's largest wind turbine has finally been completed.' The pictures are quite impressive."
