Energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule told the reporters that solar energy plants, which will have a total capacity of 7,500MW will be constructed. He added that Mahagenco will construct 2,500MW plants under public private partnership (PPP) model.
The government will also float open tenders for the remaining 500MW. Wind energy will also tapped and power will also be generated from wastes.
Bawankule further stated that the previous government of Congress-NCP did not formulate any solar policy. He added that he had got one policy formulated by experts like Anil Kakodkar.The policy is being vetted by the finance department and it would be taken up during the next meeting of the cabinet. He informed the reporters that he along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavise would meet PM Narendra Modi and discuss about the solar policy.
He further stated that the government is also mulling to install 5 lakh solar agricultural pumps with an aim to reduce dependence of farmers on conventional source of energy. He added that the plan is to install more than 8,000 pumps in the present fiscal.
