NC added about 80 megawatts of solar capacity in the 3rd quarter, and is expected to add a total of 380 megawatts this year.
"Last year, 787 million was invested in North Carolina to install solar for home, business and utility use - investment spurred largely by smart and effective public policies, such as the solar investment tax credit, net energy metering and renewable portfolio standards," stated Rhode Resch, the SEIA's chief executive.
But SEIA's report also notes "developers (have) ramped up build rates to bring their pipelines on line before the 35% state tax credit expires at the end of 2015." This should help NC end the year with a large amount of new solar construction, and continue the growth through 2015.
Solar advocates in NC are pushing for legislators to extend the tax credit, or at least soften the blow. Under the current law, those who want to take advantage of this incentive need to have completed their solar project and already be producing power by the end of the year to qualify. Solar advocates are asking legislators to allow projects that are under construction by the end of 2015 to qualify for the credit.
