Solar Wonderland Taking Shape

Solar Wonderland Taking Shape Image
Solar Wonderland is an educational and entertainment center for solar energy, teaching four major aspects of Physics: Electricity, Magnetism, Motion, and Light. Solar Wonderland is also a commercial showcase of technologies, such as solar photo-voltaic, solar thermal power, electric vehicles, LED lighting, applications of natural gas, solar water purification, solar air conditioning, solar heating, etc.

Monarch site plan

We are planning to raise charitable, educational, and investment funds for building the Solar Wonderland. Charitable and educational donations can be made through the MPower Foundation in the near future, for the purpose of reducing admission fees and providing free donor access. Later, we shall also raise private equity and perhaps crowd funding to complete the investment process. Solar Wonderland may require between 10 to 20 million dollars for completion.

We have started the design process for the Solar Wonderland which occupies about 4 acres of land, situated either at the Odyssey of the Desert on the Pima Indian Reservation or at the SkySong Innovation Center where Monarch Power is located. We have a draft design of an 80 feet tall solar step pyramid with solar panels on three sides and an atrium leading to a theater in the center. We also have designed a solar garden with a reflection pond, surrounded by a solar bazaar with showcase of commercial renewable energy products. On top of the solar bazaar are tens of the Monarch Lotus providing not only electricity but also clean water and cool air conditioning.

Solar Pyramid Elevation

Solar Wonderland is a showcase also of sustainable architecture which is self sufficient in energy, climate control, and water. Water is collected on the pyramid and in the solar garden and recycled in the reflecting pond. For human consumption, water is distilled by the Lotus Aqua. Solar Wonderland is cooled by an extensive evaporation cooling system aided by the Lotus Ice providing chilled water. The below grade Solar Garden, surrounded by 20 feet tall walls of the Solar Bazaar, retains both water and chilled air, which is pulled into the Solar Pyramid by convection. The Solar Pyramid with its light weight BIPV solar panels is warmed by the sun in winter, while during summer, the heated air flows on the inside towards the apex, drafting in cool air from the Solar Garden. Solar light guides illumine the inside during the day time, while at night, we use LED lighting powered by the utility.

The main purpose of the Solar Wonderland is of course educating and entertaining people of all ages. We shall educate through hands on demonstration about light, electricity, magnetism, and motion. Entertaining magnetic levitation rides, superconducting magic demonstrations, dazzling light shows, disorienting mirror maze, electrifying experiences, quiet electric motoring, supersonic turbines and rumbling steam or Sterling engines: they all bring awe and wonder how basic sciences built by Newton, Maxwell, and Einstein as well as innovations invented by Edison and Tesla had shaped our modern life. Better yet, we are witnessing the transformation of twentieth century power, automobile, and appliance industries into the twenty-first century renewable and sustainable use of solar, wind, and clean natural gas.

Solar Pyramid Cross-section

We promise not to dumb down science and technologies but to inspire wonder and curiosity through enlightening explanation and experimentation. We want the Solar Wonderland to teach our youngsters Newton's Laws of motion, gravity, and optics; Maxwell's Laws of electromagnetism and thermodynamics; and Einstein's Laws of relativity, gravity, and quantum mechanics. We also look at the inventive genius of Edison and Tesla, as well as the innovations made at Monarch Power Corp. Visitors can also tour the production facilities of the Monarch Lotus and the Monarch Solar Electric Vehicle. We shall also host science and invention competition for students, hoping that through the Solar Wonderland a few visitors may aspire to follow the footstep of these scientific and inventive geniuses.
